Four beer lovers came together once to brew a beer… such a simple thing can start something bigger. During brewing wild plans were made, there were even some good ideas and a spark of ambition started to emerge. “Are we able to brew a decent beer?” was the question and the rest is history…
This has led to the establishment of HappyFace Beers aiming to brew beer in the spirit of the classic styles. Do not expect frenzied four times barrel aged sour beers with rum finish from us, but you can count on a crisp Tripel, a warming Dubbel (Abbey style), a Bock for autumn evenings, an IPA for a sunny terrace and a Stout because sometimes you need something else then coffee.
After many test batches with different beers the first beer (the Tripel) officially saw the light of day on 10 January 2017, the other beers will be added one at a time to our range.
So, an afternoon brew in a backyard has led to a real beer brand giving the creators a busy time, but without forgetting to enjoy it all! We hope HappyFace beer will prove to be a valuable addition in the eye of the beer lovers in the Dutch beer scene.
MANFRED VAN ZADELHOFFThe man with a keen eye on the big picture
The marketer with vision. Somehow makes sure that other people run a bit faster and, as spider in a web, keeps the overview within HappyFace Beers. Also responsible for the name HappyFace Beers as he is also the proud owner of HappyFace Vinyl which already had a lot of brand recognition in the metal scene. Buys his beer preferably by crate or box because loose bottles are too much hassle. Had a career as bass player in MAC-11 and LWS but retired from this to manifest himself artistically as a lover and collector of the works of the better morbid artists this world has to offer.
PATRICK KARSSENAdvisor in legal and accounting aspects that comes along with a company.
Decided to volunteer to do these less popular tasks within the company in which he obviously could count on full support from the other three men. Always busy trying to capture the HappyFace activities on video, the results can be seen in the various movies available on the website. Obviously also loves a good beer while listening to an album from the heavier genre.
ED ZWAANDriving force regarding the distribution and promotion of the beer
Was already a frequent visitor of beer festivals but now he will do this from the other side of the bar to acquaint people with HappyFace beer. Except beer lover he also likes a good whisky and even wine. Is musically very broad-minded and listens to the whole range from unknown Dutch talent all the way to Black Metal, also strangely tends to remember the most idiotic facts of the artists and songs. With his 2:14 meters in length he forms a striking duo with his brother on the various beer and music festivals.
ROB ZWAANThe brewer
Develops the recipes, brews the test batches and special editions and maintains the contacts with the breweries who brew the HappyFace beer for us. In 2011 started as “Laveloos Brewery” with a “just-add-water” starter kit. From there the hobby continued to develop until finally he brewed in batches of 50 litres from the plain water, grain, hops and yeast. Plays bass in both metal and blues rock. Loves a glass of good beer and a wee dram of fine whisky. Last but not least, he is officially known as the tallest men in The Netherlands being 2.23 meters tall. A true HappyFace eye catcher at events.
And, because we can’t do everything ourselves, we fortunately are assisted where needed by Rutger de Vries (HappyFace artwork), Bob Bagchus (merchandise), Kick Verhaegen (pictures), Martin Roest (website) and Paul Stessen (storage).
